Materialism

mood: tired...?

It rather sucks have a very materialistic personality. Well, in the sense I always want to buy games and buy stuff for my girlfriend. I even do it until I have barely enough money to survive. I even tell myself to stop and that works for about 2 days and then BAM! I've gone and bought something else. Ah well, I manage to stay alive don't I? The only problem with just scraping by money wise is the amount of crappy food we eat. Being addicted to the food channel on Foxtel (cable TV) makes life very hard sometimes. Both my girlfriend and I love to cook but as all the money goes to pointless crap. I hope to change this soon.

On a good note, I start my new job in 12 or so hours. It should be fun.....

Haha, I know how that goes.

I try not to go and buy frivolous things, but sometimes they yell at me until I buy them. I'm pretty good about not buying video games, even though I've been wanting Pokemon Trozei forever.

I bought a non-stick skillet once, I'd seen it in the store, but didn't want to buy it. That night, the pan, it called my phone, emailed me, IMed me, you name it. I went back and got the pan the next day.

Then this past week, I came across a discount rack, and bought five keychain photo frames, because they were a dollar a piece, as opposed to 20 or 25 originally. I couldn't leave them!

The sad thing is that the one I opened has broken, and while I have another in the same color, and planned on using around four to take apart/hack, I'd rather the one I was going to take apart worked...

I think one thing that helps with being materialistic in giving to someone you care about is instead planning really cool ways to surprise her. That's how I replaced my habit.

Hm, I was just watching something on MTV about compulsive shoppers yesterday... well, you seem to be getting by at least, if only barely.

You guys don't have a budget or anything...?
» randomjunk on 2008-07-31 05:08:14

yeah, budget man! It will save you. Or don't go to the shops. lol.

@randomjunk & umbreons-shadow
We used to budget....and it failed miserably. Although now that I'll be making more money, I might start it again.

I thought cooking was generally cheaper.

Yeah, when you have no job, five dollars is a lot.

Then again, there was that time I spent 50 on a RC helicopter, because it looked awesome, but ended up being crap, so I took it back. But then again, I also had a job when I bought it.
